I was one who read the books for the first time in the year 2000. I read these books like I never read any books before. The book was so powerful for me. I would read a chapter, then stop and reflect on my faith and just how amazing it all was the similarities, Frodo's Humility and willing to do what had to be done, even though he was afraid and didn't know just what he was to do, he had that quality alot of the saints had, especially their fortitude and humility. To use this ring was a constant temptation. Gandalf and his Christ like similarities, I mean all characters reflected some Christian virtue or weakness. Don't take my work for it, Tolkien said for himself that his faith was the #1 influence for his writing in these books. I mean his books are so in-depth. The books besides being *Theological thrillers are written magnificently! I was amazed at Tolkiens mind. I mean he drew me in like no other author has and my love for every character, and dislike for the evil in the books was strong. The conversion of Boromer after he tried to take the ring from Frodo thinking he can help his people, repents and gives his life for his friends. Galadriel was inspired by our blessed Mother. Tolkien says this. When he made Galadriel Mary was his inspiration. Don't misunderstand, she was not supposed to be "Mary" but she was the inspiration. I am re reading the books now since I found out more about the books and Tolkien. I strongly encourage if you if you've not read the books in a long time, or ever read them, read this in this new light. I did not read them till I learned about Tolkien a little bit and heard some of these things about his books and thought I would see for myself if it was true and I saw more than I thought I would. As to comparing this book with Harry Potter (more on those books soon), I think it is an insult to Tolkien and disrespect to his memory to even put these books in the same category. These books deserve a class & category of their own, under that Joseph Pierce called "Theological thrillers". Books recommendations: The
Lord of the Rings (of course) Biography's:
