Saints

Who are the saints?
Do Catholics worship them?
|
Many are mistaken to think that "Saints" are worshiped by Catholics. This is of course false and a mistake by the teachers of those whom believe this. The Saints that we converse and ask to pray for us, are already believed to be in heaven. This belief comes about through the Church that Canonizes them through a very long and and simple yet complicated process. The Church does not just say "Oh this person is a saint, let's declare them a saint in our books".. Oh No, not at all. Please click on the above underlined hyperlink to read a little bit on the facts of canonization alone. We believe that as Scripture says in James 5:16. "Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much.". Certainly being here on earth is not as close to God as being in heaven, so them also praying before the throne of God will be more beneficial on our behalf. The Saints are our brothers and sisters and our friends. They have made it past this veil of tears and have reached their goal, our goal as well. We all as Christians are ultimately seeking the prize of heaven. To only be with our creator forever and ever. It is like someone running a marathon. Before the runner reaches the finish line, there are his friends and family cheering him on "Come on Jim! Your almost there, just a little more, were all cheering for you!" So are the saints praying before the throne of God on our behalf for strength to go on from day to day, to get through those hard times when we are not sure if we can make it that far when we are so tired. Just as my Protestant brothers and sisters ask me to pray for them and those they know having difficulty, so we as Catholics ask the saints to pray for us and our needs. It is really quite simple and beautiful, because with the saints they are always home and there when you call them no matter what time of day it is. We can say "My friend, please pray for me, & with me I am having a hard time". Some people carry around pictures of their family and friends in their wallets, and hang these pictures up on their walls and have them sitting on shelves. So we too have images, pictures of our "family" in heaven on our walls and on our shelves. We each have these images so we do not forget those we love. Once you see this simple truth, it is quite refreshing to know it is
all just a big misunderstanding and even wrong to believe all Catholics
worship saints. A little investigating Church Doctrine will also echo
my words here, and actually much better that I can explain. A result of our pride, that "We know it all already", Is a result from the fall of Satan when he was the first to say "I will not serve". A result of the first sin of Adam and Eve when they fell for the serpents lie of "You shall be like Gods". Oh the Catholic Church is so beautiful! If people would only look deep within and truly seek the truth with much prayer and sacrifice, God will show you. Yes those barriers of pride and self love will have to come down, anything not of God in our emotions, hearts and minds. Try reading about the saints, some of their lives are amazing, and you
will be surprised to find out which saints you can relate to! Here are
a few starters of articles I found using "Butlers
Lives of the saints" for my reference. To Purchase the above mentioned CD-ROM visit www.harmonymediainc.com or call 1-888-427-6334. |
